Uric gout is a form of arthritis given by the medical community. It can lead to debilitating pain. Some people get it in the elbow, big toe or in other areas. The way your gout attacks happen may be due to a number of reasons. But if how you eat and what you played a role, would you like to know how to steer clear of them? Of course you would.

=====Side Bar ====

I don’t deserve this award, but I have arthritis and I don’t deserve that either.

Jack Benny

==== End Side Bar ====
When it comes to depression, migraines and arthritis it seems that more women are afflicted with these ailments than men. But when it comes to gout, the men are leading the way with more diagnosed cases according to most studies.

Before discussing what you can do about it, lets first discuss the common schools of thought regarding gout treatments. As you would expect there are a few schools of thought. One is to try to prevent the attack from ever occurring. The other angle suggests that you help people after they already have symptoms of an attack underway.

Which appeals most to you?

Prevention just makes good old fashioned common sense. The gout attacks tend to last for about five to ten days typically. Not every case is this way for obvious reasons. One of them is that if you are on multiple medications for your other ailments, your body will need a little more time to fight off the gout episode you are experiencing.

How did you get gout?

It really isn’t a matter of how you got it, but rather now that it is hear what can you do about it. Gout is caused by crystals circulating in your bloodstream. These crystals over time build up in certain “sticking points” in the body. One popular spot is the joints of the big toes. Another sticking point is the elbow or a knee. You name it, if you have a joint there is a possibility that you may experience pain there during an attack.

Not only are the circulating crystals part of the problem but when your body breaks them down into purines or if you eat foods that are highly concentrated with purines you run greater odds of increasing those static levels. This alone can lead to gout attacks. It is like the person that has high blood pressure eating every meal with salt. Do you think their blood pressure might go up a few points? Of course it would. It is only a matter of time.

Normally, you should monitor your diet to avoid foods that cause gout. We are not talking about a radical shift here. But if you could make a simple step around just one more gout attack would you want to know how to do it, no really?

Dear Friend,
When you need additional help to be at your best. Do not let medical symptoms hold you back. In order to get the advantage over gout, it is important to know exactly what gout is, why do you get get it and once an attack occurs what can you do about it. Being proactive is always better than merely waiting around for the other shoe to drop.

Gout is a very popular type of arthritis. Some people mistake it for an old football injury. You know you have a bad leg or arm and as the story goes, it was due to your stupendous play on the grid iron.

Gouty arthritis can develop over time by the amount of uric acid circulating in the body. At higher levels of uric acid many patients find themselves on the painful side of gout. The symptoms are classic arthritic type symptoms, pain, swelling, hot or warm joints, and the inability to sleep.

Gout Cure From Your Kitchen

Finding adequate gout cures is very important. Many people wish that they could be rid of the disease, but you may or may not be willing to try these strategies.

First of all, finding a gout cure is really not difficult when you have internet access. You can get all kinds of information about the disease, you can participate in support groups, or forums, not just to help yourself but also to help others. You will find that as you help others, you will be helping yourself also.

Eating the right kinds of foods is of utmost importance to cure gout. Before you get going, you will want to drink as much water as you can. The basics should suffice, that is you should drink at least six (6) to eight (8) glasses of clean water everyday. Exercise is very important to. By doing a little exercise regulary, you will be able to keep active, strong, and flexible. Flexibility is key not only to your body but to your joints, ligaments and health to.

To stop a gout episode when it happens, you will probably have to use medication for this. These medication will likely be prescribed by a doctor if you live in the United States. They can work to reduce your pain, swelling, and even help you flush out more uric acid.

Talking with your doctor who specializes in arthritis type illness is a must. Your primary care doctor will often refer you on to a specialist who can further refine the needs of your body. When you speak with them, please have the right attitude that your doctor is part of your health care team. They can only assist you if you are ready and willing to experience a gout cure.

Dear Friend,
Gout pseudo or false arthritis might be attributable to tendonitis or a pulled ligament. It does not matter which name you refer to this debilitating disease by, the end result is the same. PAIN.

If you have ever been awakened at night or had trouble falling off to sleep due to physical pain, then you know what a dickens of a time it can be. Gout attacks are similar to asthma attacks. When a person suffering from asthma tries to sleep, they may drift off for a little while. But invariably between 3:00 AM and 5:00 AM researchers tell us that most asthmatics will be awakened with coughing, wheezing and feeling chest tightness. This in contrast with gout attacks occurs about the same times however for different reasons.

Gout sufferers will often complain of the burning in their big toes. Some describe it as a feeling of skin trying to split or erupt beneath the surface. The skin does not break through and cause bleeding and such, but the pain is just as powerful. Now because it happens at night when most activity around the home is dead stopped still, your pain and discomfort causes you to focus on it even more so than at other times.

Traditional Gout Treatments

Since gout is a form of the arthritis family, it carries with it many of the common treatments. They are: NSAIDs, pain relievers and drugs that inhibit the pain. But what about getting at the root cause? That is a good question.

Since we know that uric acid levels are often higher and more elevated in the bodies of gout sufferers, some treatments are aimed at reducing the amount of these levels. This can be done in a few ways. One way is by taking medication that actually causes the body to flush more of that chemical out the body through the natural processes of urination. Another method is to take medications that reduce the production of uric acid.

Prevention seems like the best option but alas, many people do not know of their gout condition until it is to late. They have a burning in their big toes and want the swelling, pain and discomfort to stop. So, they see a doctor that then diagnosis the problem as gout. The downside to this approach is that some of the medications have unfavorable adverse events and may result in a weakened immune system or the addition of another disease. So please weigh all your options with your doctor.

Alternative Gout Remedies

Some herbal gout remedies may be a benefit for you to try as well. These medicinal herbs and remedies have been around for years. Some as old as 2500 years ago. The kings and Queens had gout and of course they would be treated by some agents to provide relief.

Turmeric and ginger are among the leading herbal gout treatments. They are in many preparations and often are used to provide relief of pain and the swelling associated with gout. Another remedy is that of soaking an affected area in a concoction of apple cider vinegar and rose hips. This can reduce uric acid levels and the crystals by a flushing process. Your skin is porous and has the ability to absorb whatever you put on it. By soaking your targeted area, whether it is the elbow or your big toes you can find some relief.

Dear Friend,
When you need to be at your best the last you want to be bothered with is gout swelling from an attack. Though it is hard to predict just when these attacks will occur, if you could cut back on their severity and frequency, would you want to know how to do that? Of course.

Your diet effects the manner in which your gout arthritis flares up. That is the truth. Researchers have known the link between diet and health for years. They have also know that smoking was hazardous to your health to. So what foods should you avoid and which ones should you eat for healthy reasons?

Foods That Make Gout Hurt

First it is important to know which foods are the culprits when it comes to your gout attacks. Starting right now you should avoid or eliminate all together the following foods:
1. Potatoes
2. Organ meats like brain, liver, tongue etc
3. Certain Vegetables

An explanation is in order here because many of you have stated you just do not see how vegetables can be on the “BAD FOOD” list. Well, the realities are that regardless of it being a meat, starch or a vegetable, certain foods actually elevate something called purines. When you eat foods that have and elevate purines they get broken down into uric acid in the body. These levels may be normal in new born babies but the longer you live and eat a certain diet, the more your gout attacks may persist.

Now your body usually eliminates the uric acid during urination and such. But excessive levels get recirculated back into the body. One this happens the uric acid levels build up at the joint clusters to form crystal deposits. This is the beginning of gout arthritis.

Foods To Include In Your Diet

A basic gout diet should contain plenty of fresh fruits and certain vegetables. We will give you a few inside secrets of eating in such a way as to decrease the amount of uric acid in your body naturally. That is through consuming certain vegetables. The best advice to follow is to think fresh, green and eat as many servings of it as you can. There are tons of fruits and fortunately something will always be in season no matter where you live in the world. You need to avoid getting bored with just one food. Use your imagination. Be creative here and you should be well supplied for years to come.

Crucial to any sensible diet is the proper amount of water. There are so many disorders that can be improved with proper hydration. The goal is to drink as often as you can. Think about the amount of sodas you drink. Or even the many cups of coffee you consume everyday. You should replace those with water and you will be amazed at how your body responds.

Secret Foods to Reduce Gout

Cherries either wild or black ones have been shown to reduce the gout symptoms during an attack. Why not make it a staple in your diet? If they can reduce the pain and affects of arthritis, it would seem wise to include them in your daily staples of fruits and vegetables.

There are certain chemicals found only in wild and black cherries that work to eliminate the effects of uric acid in your body. Many people claim that they felt better instantly. My partner had swelling on her left foot. Very tender, inflamed, red, painful to say the least. She ate frozen cherries and found relief from the gout like foot. She was never diagnosed by a medical doctor with gout but it sure looked and responded like it. These cherries even prevented her from future attacks to.

Another secret staple is that of apples. They contain an acid that will counter the effects of uric acid also. Here is a great idea for you. Jack La Lane the health and fitness guru has a juicer machine for sale now. Why not get it and use the secrets foods above to make a cocktail that will help you in no time at all.

All you have to do is buy the apples and cherries, add water and blend up the slices to form a nice drink. Consume the drink at breakfast, and maybe get at least three servings out of it throughout the day.

Dear Friend,
Gout is a very problematic type of arthritis. As you know arthritis is usually divided into two forms: Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid arthritis. Both are very painful and though doctors have found a way to distinguish one from the other, gout is somewhere in between.

Medical scientists have been successful with creating various treatments for arthritis. Gouty arthritis is not different, in that it appears when uric acid levels have built up in the bloodstream. This excessive uric acid will then form clusters or crystals at the joint sockets. This physiological manifestation is what we call gout.

As for the types of treatments that have been created to combat the pain, swelling, and debilitating nature of this disease is nothing to sneeze at. Millions of people in the United States alone account for a lot of pain and suffering from this disease. Some people try surgery, physical therapy, water aerobics, pain reliever medications and then there are those that just suffer with it.

You no longer have to suffer with the effects of gout. Right now, probably in your kitchen cupboard are home remedies that have been proven effective over the years. These are however not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration but then again they do not need it.

Here is what I mean…

Gout is nothing more than arthritis which presents as inflammation in the joints. Common gout home treatments include the use of food stuffs like, certain fruits, natural vegetables, herbal extracts, vitamins and minerals along with natural herbs to name a few.

Gout Relief from Fruits

It used to be said when I was a child that an apple a day keeps the dentist away. We have all heard of that rhyme. But did you know that eating an apple or two a day will really keep your gouty inflammation in check. Just imagine the enjoyable pleasure of eating fresh fruits and getting all kinds of relief from your symptoms. For best results, eat the apples right after eating your meals. You could also serve up bananas, strawberries, and even cherries (black or wild) will work wonders on your inflammation.

Super Simple Gout Relief Juices

Several of the fruits can be combined with vegetables for a powerful cocktail. If you want to get going on this in a simple way here is a shopping list.

Lemons

Apples

Bananas

Black Cherries

French beans (aka string beans)

If you can do this just once, try to mix and match a few or a couple of the fruits along with a vegetable. Their is a drink called V8 juice that uses this tactic to sell millions of dollars .

Most health food stores stock pure cherry concentrate, which is also very useful for preventing/treating gout. Another health-friendly juice good for gouty symptoms is that of French beans (also known as String beans); half a cup of this juice should be taken daily for its effective action against gout.

As you can see, this is one power packed beverage. You will have no probable with finishing the laundry or the accounting project due on your bosses desk in the morning after drinking this.

Dear Friend,
Purines gout is nothing more than GOUT. If you are like millions of people around the world that have gout, you know what a lifestyle altering disease it could be to have. Who wants to give up their favorite past times like sailing, rowing, hiking or even skiing all because of arthritis? Nobody does. If this describes you, please read on to find out what steps you can take to do something about it.

Step One Diet and Weight Do Matter

This may be a touchy subject for most of you reading this. Especially if you are in the United States. In the U.S. of the adult population alone, over 57% of adults are overweight and many are clinically obese. Obesity is the term used to describe the person that is beyond overweight. They are so overweight that the condition of carrying the weight causes their organs, heart and joints of course to overwork.

Gout suffers need to make healthier choices of foods for sure, but also you need to watch what you eat. You see, certain foods have a higher rate of purines in them. There are foods that aggravate a gout condition. So eating them is like begging for more torture. Not a good thing for sure.

Even when you think you are eating in a healthy way, you may be dooming yourself for more early morning wake ups with pain in your big toes. Why? Because some vegetables, seafood, and even meats of course will cause your purines to soar.

Fruits and some natural herbal teas may be helpful for gout patients. But stay away from alcohol or minimize it at least. Low-fat dairy products have starches that are usually recommended for gouty patients. There are so many other ingredients that could be listed here. Please look around and research this because your diet has to be different from the standard adult diet. If not you will just increase your pain load.

Gout Changes Lifestyles

As you age, the gout symptoms will increase. Taking steps now to alter or change your lifestyle is one of the best actions you can take. Learning to breathe deeply, meditate, do Yoga or some other form of exercise and deep breathing type work will assist you with gout.

Learning to focus your mind away from the pain and discomfort can be a big reliever in and of itself. Others benefit from the activity in their limbs. What you do not want to do, is becoming a “couch potato”. Sitting on the sidelines of life, watching endless television episodes will just torpedo your attempts at healthier living through changes in your lifestyle.

Even though some people move to warm weather climates to help their conditions, it may or may not be something that you can afford to do. But the truth of the matter is that, cold weather makes gout symptoms more painful. You can use a heating pad or a good blanket to keep warm and comfortable during the cold winter months. Getting into a warm swimming pool is a big help for arthritis patients to. Just the warm water and the physical exertion would invigorate your body and your spirit.

Dear Friend,
You may be surprised to know that your gout condition is totally not your fault. All along your parents pushed you to eat certain foods and unbeknown to them foods that cause gout may have been a staple in your home. Eating is as basic as breathing and talking. If you eat the right foods your health may reward you. However, if you eat the wrong foods you will be penalized. Knowing the difference for your body type and conditions is the key to this disease state.

How Does Gout Affect Joints

Gout is basically another form or a subset of arthritis. It becomes inflamed as a result of higher uric acid levels that accumulate and circulate in the body. These crystal-like clusters form around the joints primarily. The irritation, discoloration, heat, pain and swelling from these areas is enough to make you seek pain medication for relief. But before you do, would you like to know if your diet may be causing you a lot of the pain?

How Food Influences Gout

In many cases foods that cause gout may have been readily available an consumed by many in your family. Researchers tell us that the diets we grew up with as children is often similar to the diet we select for our families. And so, the cycle is repeated from generation to generation.

As a result of eating the wrong foods for your condition, the body responds by building up active ingredients called purines. These purines are normally broken down into uric acid. Later the kidneys will filter them out with ease. But when you have more uric acid and the body does not eliminate them, the condition of gout is often the result.

Some Foods To Avoid

A strong case could be made for listing every food that has been known to trigger gout. But that would not be feasible. So this list is one that your can print out and memorize or take it to the grocery store with you.

1. Organ meats eg. liver, heart, kidney, tongue
2. Fish (shellfish)
3. Certain vegetables (mushrooms, cauliflower, spinach, peas, and beans)

Though this list is comprised of what many would call good wholesome foods, such is true. But only if your do not have gout. If you already have gout, you should experiment with the way your body responds to eating these foods and whether that exacerbates your condition or not.

Maintaining a healthy body is very important for overall health. With gout, many eating foods that contribute to obesity should be avoided. When a person is obese their body already produces to much uric acid. So, avoiding eating foods that do not contribute to maintaining a healthy body weight.

Gout pain relief begins with what you put into your mouth regularly. It is alarming to some people to learn that all they had to do to stop the pain was eat a few of these foods a day. And stop killing themselves slowly with the big five gout gobblers.

Top Five Foods That Cause Gout

Here are the big 5 foods to know if you’ve want to avoid or minimize the gout attacks that cause you and millions of other people so much pain.

1. Mushrooms
2. Asparagus
3. Organ meats
4. Seafood
5. Red meats (among others)

We are not talking about never eating them again, but just decreasing the amount you consume because you may want to avoid another bout with the pain, redness, and tender joints.

As you can see getting the edge over gout may be as simple as monitoring your diet and avoiding foods highly concentrated in purines. But that may not be all that you and your doctor can do for your symptoms. There are other medications that are specifically available for your symptoms. You should always talk with your health care provider to get the best possible results. After all, not a single medication is side effect free. You will have to work with them to find the best possible option.

Gout Medications: Are they worth it?

Uric gout treatments can take the form of many classes of drugs to homeopathic remedies. You will notice that some doctors will use NSAIDs for your treatment. NSAIDS are not side effect free. They have been shown to possibly cause stomach problems., GI upset, ulcerations etc. This does not mean they are the wrong medications for you. Working with your doctor is very crucial here. You two are on the same team.

Naproxen is a popular arthritis medication. But your doctor may desire to try you on colchicine. This has been effective in dealing with gout over the years. But be aware that some experience vomiting, diarrhea and nausea. You can see a common thread between NSAIDS and Colchicine (GI or stomach problems).

Other types of steroids are prednisone. This can come in the form of an inhaler but that is used for asthma. Or it can be dosed by a pill. The pills have serious side effects. Some of which are bone mineral density problems that may occur later on in life. Your wounds may not heal in a timely fashion and your body may have a hard time getting rid of certain infections.

A preventive gout attack medication that some doctors use is allopurinol. It will effectively block the formation of uric acid. This as you have seen is the chief cause of your painful problem. Other medications work to move the uric acid from your body after it has formed. Probenecid does that nicely. An important concern is to talk with your doctor about your options. There is always something you can do. Part of that should include becoming an expert on your disease so as to help yourself and many others you may know.

Gout symtoms are usually what drive you into the office of your primary care doctor. They usually see more men than women for gout. This is rather unusual because so many chronic diseases are led by women and not men. Gout is one painful disease to have to deal with. Understanding which issue plagues you the most is what will help your doctor get to the bottom of this.

How Gout Starts

Basically gout is just another name for a form of arthritis. It used to be that people would joke about getting older and experiencing many aches and pains. Gout was likely one of those jokes. But if you are afflicted with this disease it is no laughing matter.

Gout symptoms are rather standard. They include but are not limited to swelling of the joints, redness or discoloration of the skin of the infected area, warm to the touch, sore, and it is so painful. Some people with gout have explained their cases to say that not even a sheet or light clothe can touch the inflamed area. Now that just sounds so painful.

What Can You Do About Gout?

Since gout is an internal disease one characterized by the buildup of crystals in the bloodstream that often affects the joint fluid areas. For instance a popular area is an elbow, the big toes, knees, and of course your back. The amount and duration of pain may extend from anywhere from five (5) to ten (10) days.

The body can normally filter out the purines that are the byproduct of metabolizing the crystals. But the Uric acid is really the culprit after the purines are broken down. These uric acid levels can be used as the target for which certain drugs are used to reduce their levels in the body. The theory is that once the bodies uric acid levels are lowered, the amount of “gout attacks” will reduce and ultimately disappear.

Many people do not believe that gout should deter them from living their lives on their terms. Who says you should be sitting up on the sidelines. Not active. Unable to enjoy your children or your grandchild’s activities. You should make conquering gout a goal. Strive to learn all that you can about it and move into action.

Are All Purines Bad?

Purines are already part of the natural flow of your body. What you can do to further exacerbate your gout condition and not make your gout attacks sky rocket is first to watch what you eat. What you eat has a direct link to the amount and duration of your gout attacks.

When you consider that certain foods once eaten will elevate your purines, you would be wise to avoid or eliminate them from your diet completely. The top foods to avoid are:
1. Asparagus
2. Mushrooms
3. Certain Seafood (shellfish for instance)
4. Organ meats (eg. tongue, heart, livers…)

What the top four foods do is increase the amount of uric acid in your system. Though most patients kidneys are able to excrete the acid, it is probably best for you to experiment with avoiding them. Why not replace them with some other foods?

As you can see gout causes lots of pain, discomfort and decreasing the value of your quality of life. No one should have to go through this. You can do something about it by taking the first steps to avoidance, eating the right foods, and talking with your doctor or health care provider about medications that will decrease the dreaded uric acid.

Dear Friend,
Having medical gout, more commonly known as gout, is a very painful and lifestyle altering disease to have. This form of arthritis in which uric acid produced by the body are elevated. They build up to a level to where crystals circulating in the blood get deposited in the joints. This is a very simple explanation of what happens to you.

History of Gout

Gout arthritis is not new. In fact this very painful form of arthritis dates back to around 2500 years ago. We can use Greek medical documents to determine that this condition plagued kings and queens to where there was no respecter of persons.

Today gout is more commonly inflicting those who live in very developed conditions. It was known as the “kings of disease” and also the “disease of kings” or royalty. Those who live in very developed countries where people have a nice standard of living are most often afflicted with more of this condition. Do you know why? Because only in these more developed countries can you obtain sufficient food and drink to become morbidly obese. Eating foods that cause your body to expand to those levels is just not normal. It takes work and effort to become obese, and as a result of certain foods eaten to excess the uric acid levels are kicked into overdrive and gout is on the way.

How does Gout Arthritis Attacks Appear?
Gout seems to have a rapid or idiopathic frequency. Many patients complain of being awakened at night. They feel the intense pain their feet. The big toe is often described as feeling the throbbing, heat, and as if the skin would rip apart.

Soft Tissue Deposits and Gout

In some gout cases, soft tissues injuries occur. This happens primarily around the joints. And of course, the uric acid is deposited around the soft tissues. As time progresses and the continued deposits do not abate, patients will see a whitish or yellowish deposits. This is called tophi. In some very severe gout cases, the tophi may erupt and tear apart underneath the skin.

Gout Treatment and Diagnosis

A diagnosis of gout is usually completed after a physician takes a physical exam of the suspected areas. They will obtain a fluid sample from the affected region. They will send the sample out to the lab for testing of levels of uric acid crystals. Remember the crystals are the hallmark marker of gout.

Most providers of healthcare will also obtain a urine sample from you to test for the uric acid in your body. This is all very common place today. These levels can become quite elevated and it makes no sense in rushing through to a diagnosis and not making a thorough case for gout or another form of arthritis like Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Once diagnosed the gout is often treated by many different routes. Some prefer to take a pill that seeks to decrease the levels of uric acid in the body. The only problem with those drugs is that of side effects. Another method of treatment would be to use various hot and cold pack massages. Therapeutic massage of the limbs could also be used but many people do not want anything to touch the affected area. Also, you will probably be advised to decrease the use of alcohol and foods that would elevate the purines in your body.
